Lesotho 2024: New Projects, New People

Hi all! Today has been our first full day at Molimo Nthuse lodge. This morning we started new language lessons with a women named Malineo; she taught Dr. Rosenberg when he first joined Peace Corps. She has been teaching volunteers for 50 years. Our two primary tasks are setting up a playground and painting a school with 7 classrooms and 1 library. Today, I was with the playground crew and we dug 8 holes and cemented 8 posts into them. The painters are taking it 2-3 classrooms at a time as they have been challenged with prepping walls of unplastered cinder. They've decided that multiple layers of white-primer (PVA) will be the best way to prep the walls for color. The kids here are still getting used to us and are much more timid than those at Ramabanta. But, towards the end of our shift we watched them at soccer practice before we left. The whole place is much higher in the mountains and it's felt a bit more congested here with all of them being so close. It's colder and the sun comes up about 5 minutes later because the mountains. Yet, the views are still just as killer as Ramabanta. The lodge has some long, steep hikes and a pretty, little creek alongside it. We're excited to start our second project and are looking forward to the rest of the trip!

Dear Parents and Friends, there will not be a blog tomorrow night. We are going to be at the Royal palace to have lunch with the Queen and the Princess, after that we will be headed to the Capital for Pizza and live music.
